One of 900 bodied by Papworth Industries for Austin Motors and sold by Austin as the Austin BW3 Hampshire Countryman.
90% of these cars were exported as part of the Government’s ‘Export or Die’ mandate and this example was sold new in Ontario, Canada. It was used until 1969, with just 49,000 miles on the clock when it was put into storage, where it stayed until 1992. It was then sold to a Canadian car journalist who intended to restore it, but never did, so the car stayed in storage.
Out of the surviving half dozen or so Austin BW3 Countryman Woodie estate cars this is the only example in the world that is currently roadworthy.
|Accolades:||This stunning and rare Austin Woodie has won ‘Best of Show’ at the Austin Counties Car Club annual rally three years in succession and was awarded ‘Best in Show’ at the NEC classic car show in 2004.|
